Microsoft To Retire Skype’s Windows App On July 7
Microsoft stops to support the Skype’s modern touch-sensitive Windows App on July 7. The app was specifically designed for the devices that support touch control.
Users will be needed to download the regular desktop app from Skype official website (Skype.com) when trying to log in. After 7th of next month, it will not be possible to use the modern Skype app, trying to access the app will automatically redirect the user to download the desktop app.
On the blog of Skype, Microsoft reports that it does not make sense to have the two applications coexist, because even the regular app supports the touch control.
The touch-sensitive version was launched by Microsoft as part of a focus on tablets within Windows 8. A dedicated desktop interface was created. The so-called Metro-area joined the company, however, to get a lot of criticism. With Microsoft Windows 10 PCs and laptops would turn back to a more traditional interface.
